The Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) workshops serve as a space to learn, meet, and collaborate with faculty, researchers, and professionals working to improve undergraduate STEM education. These workshops aim to encourage and empower participants to take action toward improving undergraduate STEM education. Virtual workshops are scheduled March, April, May, August, and September 2026. All workshops take place online using a webinar/meetings platform and run up to 90-minutes in duration.
Two to three speakers will be chosen by AAAS staff to present for each workshop. Following presentations, there will be Q&A/discussion time. Speakers are expected to answer questions and lead discussions following the presentations.
Topics
Below is a list of workshop themes with relevant goals and objectives.
Current and past awardees with complimentary projects will be paired for workshops. The goal is to facilitate conversation around issues encountered and how they worked through them for the benefit of all. Q&A will follow for further discussion.
These workshops will feature short presentations and facilitated conversations among members of multi-institutional collaborative awards to understand how these teams operate to become successful, challenges they encounter, and best practices for developing and implementing a successful collaborative award. The goal is to disseminate your work and help those seeking or managing collaborative awards be successful.
AAAS-IUSE is seeking to feature project presentations that allow graduate student team members to provide an overview of the award, outcomes or goals, and to share their experiences working on these IUSE awards. Two to three graduate students will have 10-15 minutes to present. Then the webinar will transition to a 20-minute discussion where they can share their experiences and takeaways.
Presenters will be chosen based on the following criteria:
- Alignment with at least one of the themes.
- Relevancy to an audience of IUSE principal investigators, higher education stakeholders, and the larger undergraduate STEM education community.
- Compelling title, subtitle, and description of the subject you plan to cover.
- Personal information such as name, affiliation, email address, and discipline.
- Title of your presentation.
- Up to 300 words describing your presentation, including discipline, topics and issues that will be addressed and how they relate to the overarching topic.
- Up to 250 words describing goals, expected outcomes, and key takeaways.
- Related past presentations (title of presentation, event where presentation was given, and a link to the recording if applicable).
- Related work on topic.
- Biography (up to 250-words or a link to your biography).
- Headshot link or upload (Please note, if chosen to present, this image will be used in advertising and promotional materials).
