Dr. Martin earned his Ed.D. from the University of Georgia in mathematics education.
He is an endowed professor at Auburn University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in mathematics education. He currently serves as director of the MTE-Partnership, an NSF-funded (DUE #2141730) national coalition of universities working to improve secondary mathematics teacher preparation, and as PI for DREAM-Math (DUE #2151040), an NSF-funded project to prepare persons with a STEM degree to become mathematics teachers. Additional foci for his research include the development of master/mentor teachers and mathematics standards and curriculum. He is the lead editor, co-editor or author of 10 books, author or co-author of dozens of journal articles and book chapters, lead or co-author on multiple sets of standards, and presenter of more than 150 sessions at national and international conferences. Before coming to Auburn, he served as the director of research for National Council of Teacher of Mathematics and held positions at the University of Hawaiʻi and Northern Illinois University. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher in Chesapeake, VA.
