José M. Guzmán is an Associate Teaching Professor in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences and the Marine Biology program. He is the recipient of the

UW Distinguished Teaching Award, Teaching Award in Team, the CoEnv Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award, and the Exceptional Mentoring of Undergraduates Award. José is passionate about effective teaching and the science behind it. His research program focuses on strategies that promote recruitment, retention, and success of undergraduate students from historically excluded groups in marine sciences, who bring diverse perspectives to solving the most pressing issues facing twenty-first century ocean science.
