Gary Weissmann, Ph.D.

Dr. Weissmann is the Albert and Mary Jane Black Professor of Hydrology in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences where he conducts research on sedimentary geology, focusing on continental environments, and groundwater hydrology. He collaborates with Dr. Roberto Ibarra on understanding the role of Context Diversity in increasing diversity in STEM. Dr. Weissmann teaches a broad range of topics in geology and environmental science to university students at all levels (first-year up to graduate students). He serves as a workshop facilitator and management board for the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) Building Stronger Departments Traveling Workshop Program, and he has offered several workshops on diversity in STEM as well as on various aspects of sedimentary geology and groundwater hydrology. He is currently the Associate Chair and Undergraduate Committee Chair of the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences.
