Dwain M Desbien is the founding physics

faculty member at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) in Avondale Arizona. At EMCC Desbien has served as division chair, faculty senate president among other leadership positions. Desbien received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Physics Education) from Arizona State University working under Dr. David Hestenes in the modeling physics program in addition to an M.S. in Physics from University of Kansas and B.A. in Physics from Grinnell College. Desbien continues to do research in PER and focuses on classroom management issues. He was Co-PI on NSF funded grants for TYC and HS teachers (http://www.physicsworkshops.org) and the OPTYCS grant. He is active in the Arizona section of the AAPT and is a former president of the section. In his free time Desbien is a scuba instructor and does high power rocketry.
