Dax Ovid identifies as white Hispanic (they/she) person with a PhD in biology that
now specializes in Discipline-Based Education Research. After realizing the challenges of dissociating in high-stress situations, they sought mental health support to address underlying causes. Following from personal lived experiences, they became an advocate for student well-being, sexual violence prevention, recovery programs, and a trained facilitator in restorative justice as an approach for conflict resolution. They aim to highlight the value of acknowledging emotions, in ourselves and in others, to humanize education and enable the success of students with traumatic histories, who bring valuable perspectives to science.
