The University of North Carolina (UNC) System Math Pathways for African American Collegiate Transformation (MPAACT) project seeks to increase the success, confidence, and sense of belonging of Black men in gateway mathematics courses. This collaborative project has been implemented at four universities – NC A&T State University, NC Central University, UNC Charlotte, and UNC Greensboro – with additional leadership provided by several other UNC System institutions. This talk will highlight the accomplishments made during the first two years. It will also present some of the lessons learned while leading a complex, multi-institutional effort to improve support structures in mathematics.
