This lightning talk unveils an innovative educational model that bridges the gap between predominantly white institutions (PWIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through Participatory Action Learning and Action Research (PALAR). Centered on democratizing innovation and addressing systemic racism within STEM, this model leverages collaborative, community-engaged projects outside traditional classrooms. Hosted on land provided by Harvest Dreams in Tuskegee, Alabama, the project involves students and faculty in a learning living lab to create a sustainable education and community transformation model. The talk will highlight the structured yet flexible PALAR framework that encourages critical reflection, co-creation of knowledge, and action toward social justice, effectively preparing students to challenge educational norms and contribute meaningfully to societal change.
