We will report on the mid-term progress of our three-year initiative to introduce Distributed Learning Undergraduate Programs in Data Science across a consortium of diverse universities, focusing primarily on minority-serving institutions that traditionally lack sufficient resources to offer these programs independently. This project utilizes advanced distributed learning technologies to make data science education accessible to underserved universities, thereby leveraging our nation’s diversity and sustaining its leadership in STEM fields. Our collaborative effort has successfully pooled resources from 11 distinct institutions to create and implement 10 data science courses and three summer research workshops. Additionally, we have equipped 200 students with mini-bachelor certificates in data science. During the presentation, we will showcase the learning analytics from the first two adaptive courses developed under this program. These courses are designed to support flexible learning modalities that allow students to learn at their own pace, place, and time, effectively catering to individual learning needs. This initiative not only enhances educational opportunities but also forms strategic academic partnerships essential for broadening participation in data science education and research.
